On Tuesday (August 12), WTI crude oil futures fell during trading, and the price was still in the consolidation pattern for several days.
Tariff negotiations bring respite to the crude oil market
The calmness of the current market stems in part from the extension of Sino-US tariffs. China and the United States have decided to postpone the suspension of additional tariffs until November 10, which has relieved some pressure on the market. The imposition of triple-digit tariffs on Chinese goods would have a heavy blow to global economic growth and thus affect fuel demand. Now traders have gained a little breathing space—but whether this is the path to a real agreement or just a matter of delay remains to be seen.
Rate cut expectations provide additional support

Outlook Outlook: Range volatility is more likely to be maintained at present
Before one of the new geopolitical or economic triggers appears, oil prices are more likely to consolidate sideways in the $62.70 to $66.60 range. Buyers seem willing to defend when oil prices fall near $63, but the market has not shown strength to break through $66.64. I will still see the pullback as a potential buying opportunity – but if Friday’s meeting brings unexpected situations, the follow-up trend remains to be seen.
