GBP/USD falls below 1.3300 as USD rises due to Powell's comfort and trade optimism

On Wednesday, the pound depreciated against the US dollar, but rebounded slightly after falling to a four-day low of 1.3230. Traders seemed relieved because U.S. President Trump, while angry at Fed Chairman Powell, did not intend to fire him. At the time of writing, GBP/USD was traded at 1.3289, down 0.28%.
GBP/USD Corrected losses after Trump hinted that Powell remained in office and China's tariff cuts fell to a four-day low near the end of the North American trading session, and Trump said he did not intend to fire Powell. This boosted global stock markets and pushed the dollar higher.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the pound/dollar rebounded recently as the White House considered cutting tariffs on China to ease the trade war. Despite traders cheering the move, the pair is under pressure to recover confidence in the U.S. currency.
In terms of data, the U.S. Lightning Purchasing Managers Index released by S&P showed that manufacturing activity improved in April while the service industry continued to slow. The manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index rose from 50.2 to 50.7, exceeding the 49.1 expectation, while the service Purchasing Managers Index fell from 54.4 to 51.4.
Over the Atlantic, the S&P Global Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index contracted for six consecutive months in April, meeting expectations of 44, down from the previous month's 44.9. The service industry index fell to 48.9 from its seven-month high of 52.5 in March, failing to meet the 51.3 expectations.
GBP/USD Price Forecast: Technical Prospects
In this context, the GBP/USD is on the riseThe trend still exists after falling below 1.3300. However, sellers seem to have accumulated momentum as the Relative Strength Index (RSI) moves towards a neutral level. Nevertheless, they must achieve a daily closing below 1.3250 in order to test the next critical support level of 1.3152, the 50-day simple moving average (SMA).
On the other hand, if GBP/USD breaks through 1.3300, the buyer may target the year-high of 1.3423 set on April 22.
